Man Utd fans say they’re ‘over’ Bruno Fernandes as star misses big chance against Leeds

Manchester United fans were left raging by talisman Bruno Fernandes on Sunday after the midfielder missed a glaring opportunity to give his side the lead.

With the scores level at 0-0 during United’s Premier League clash against Leeds at Elland Road – and the game on the verge of half-time, Fernandes charged down Max Wober in possession, blocking his pass to set himself away clean through on goal. The Portuguese playmaker had time to take several touches to carry the ball into the box as he bore down on Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier in a one-v-one.

But despite steadying himself to shoot, Fernandes couldn’t beat the French stopper, who stuck out his right boot to turn the United’s man’s effort away. It was a glorious chance and Fernandes knew it, as did the United fans who vented their anger on social media.

“Fernandes how do you miss that?” one user exclaimed, as another agreed: “Bruno Fernandes should be scoring that.”

Another took aim, stating: “Bruno Fernandes is still trash!” with another on the same page, writing: “Proof Fernandes is s***. He can’t even score against leaky Meslier 1 on 1.”

Others felt Fernandes should be concentrating more on the game, rather than trying to make his voice heard. “Bruno Fernandes is beyond disgusting,” one fan said .”Playing better with his mouth,” as another remarked: “Bruno Fernandes spending more time man marking the ref than being good at football.”

Fernandes has led United in many fixtures this season as stand-in captain, though handed the armband back over to Harry Maguire, who started in defence against Leeds. The hosts made life difficult for the Red Devils, having also earned a point at Old Trafford in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw.

Fernandes struck it low but Meslier got his foot to the ball to deny the Man Utd star

Speaking about the chance at half-time, former United skipper Roy Keane conceded fans would “expect better” from Fernandes, but was quick to praise Meslier for his reflexes. “He[Fernandes]’s certainly had the best chance of the game, I think Leeds, again, sloppy coming out here, Fernandes, you’d want him in this position, him and Rashford, but let’s give credit to the goalkeeper, it was a brilliant save.

“Leeds again taking silly chances, they’re very much in the game, Fernandes going through, with all his quality we’d expect better, but we’ve got to give the ‘keeper credit, he stood strong and did his job, made a good save. Not enough quality from United, but they’ve had certainly the best chance of the game.
