David Beckham approached to support Man Utd takeover bids to boost chances of buying club

David Beckham has been approached to support Manchester United takeover bids ahead of Friday’s deadline for interested parties.

The Red Devils have been put up for sale by the Glazer family, who have set a deadline of Friday for bidders to come forward and meet their £6billion valuation. According to The Telegraph, several potential bidders have approached Beckham to front their bids and endorse their deals in an attempt to boost their chances of buying the club.

However, it is understood that Beckham has turned down the requests and will not be attaching himself to any specific bids to buy the club.

The former United winger had been identified as a long-term asset by several interested parties, due to his connection to the club from his playing days.

Beckham has instead rejected any approaches, though, and will not be involved in the takeover process, even if the Qatari-backed bid emerges as a frontrunner. The 47-year-old has an ambassadorial role with the Middle East nation, which he started ahead of the World Cup.

As well as the Qatari investors, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a host of American consortiums are expected to table bids before the deadline later this week. Twitter owner Elon Musk has also been linked with an approach and is said to be monitoring the situation.
