Gabriel Jesus injury update from Arteta has Arsenal fans dreaming before Man City clash

Arsenal fans have been left dreaming of Gabriel Jesus’ return to action against Manchester City after Mikel Arteta’s injury update.

Jesus, 25, has been out since suffering a serious knee injury while playing for Brazil at the World Cup. Despite the emergence of Eddie Nketiah, the Brazilian striker’s ability and experience up-front has been missed, particularly in recent weeks as Arsenal dropped four points against Everton and Brentford.

But Arteta has provided a positive injury update ahead of the potentially title-deciding clash with City on Wednesday. And while Jesus won’t be fit in time to face the reigning Premier League champions, he has progressed well in his recovery since undergoing surgery.

“[Jesus is] doing really well,” Arteta said at his press conference on Tuesday. “He’s been doing quite a lot of work on the ball already [on the grass] and his rehab is going well.”

When asked if there was a timeframe on the forward’s return, the Spaniard responded by saying: “Unfortunately no. Ask the doctor, maybe he’ll give you one.”

Mikel Arteta was optimistic about the forward’s progress

Gunners fans were unsurprisingly left buoyed by the news as they took to Twitter. One user wrote: “He’s going to be like a new signing all over again,” while another tweeted: “Get him on the pitch immediately.”

A third overenthusiastic fan wishfully commented: “Gonna be starting tomorrow. Arteta masterclass,” and a fourth added: “We are winning the league.”

Jesus had five goals and six assists for Arsenal in 14 league games prior to his injury.

Yet City could face the league leaders without their own star striker. Erling Haaland, who has 25 league goals already in his first season in England, came off at half-time against Aston Villa on Sunday following a knock.

Haaland joined the rest of the City squad for Monday’s recovery session. But manager Pep Guardiola maintained that the Norwegian would not play if there was even the slightest risk of aggravating his injury.

Guardiola said: “We train this afternoon. Right now I don’t know. Yesterday was about recovery from Aston Villa. That’s all.”

A win for City on Wednesday would put them level on points with Arsenal and ahead on goal difference.
