‘People say my husband can do better because I’m fat – but we love each other’

A woman is trolled by keyboard warriors who say her husband could do better because she’s “fat” – but the couple couldn’t be more in love.

Alicia McCarvell often talks about how she’s been taunted by trolls because of her appearance.

People are quick to say how “different” she is to her super-toned husband, Scott McCarvell, just because of her size.

The body positive influencer, from Canada, often shares content to her 920,000 followers on Instagram to help make women feel good about themselves.

And in a recent Instagram post, Alicia opened up about the types of comments she often receives as a result of her looks.

She revealed the cruel comments she regularly receives from trolls

Sharing a number of snaps of herself and Scott, she revealed people say “bro settled”.

Other haters cruelly comment “he could do so much better than you”, while others claimed her husband was doing “charity work”.

A number of people even claimed he must be “cheating” on Alicia simply because they look so different.

Writing on Instagram, Alicia said: “When people say things like ‘we get it, you’re fat and you have a fit husband’ I’m here to remind them, people don’t get it – in fact they barely tolerate it.

“These are the things that society thinks about fat people who are in relationships with partners who are smaller or fitter than them.

“This is the reality. The cruel reality.”

The couple say they are in a happy relationship, and truly love each other

She added: “This is the stigma Scott and I fight to break every. single. day. Simply by existing online.

“Someone commented ‘how are you and your husband so different’ on a photo of him and I.

“‘So different’ simply because our bodies are different.

“This is an apology to anyone who receives these comments, who feels like their love isn’t valid, who thinks they aren’t worthy of their partner – I want to set the record straight – our relationship isn’t the problem, society is.

“Your relationship isn’t the problem, society is.

“You are worthy, your love is valid, and society can pound sand, while you pound each other.”

Alicia said “society” has a problem, and they couldn’t be happier

Even though Alicia is known to receive many cruel comments online, there’s been an outpouring of love since she shared her story.

More than 32,000 people have liked the post – and hundreds of people reached out to the couple too.

One person said: “The fact that people go out of their way to be cruel will forever boggle my mind.

“Thankful that you continue to share your story in a society that tries so desperately to silence you.”

Another added: “Yep. This still hurts. Happens to me all the time with my husband – always disappointed but never surprised.”

Meanwhile, a third commented: “It’s always the smaller girls who can’t handle us having men.”
