Premier League icon is unrecognisable as a model going down the catwalk

Pep Guardiola was punished by Barcelona for talking part in a modelling catwalk – but the designer had the last laugh as all the clothing he wore flew off the shelves.

The four-time Premier League winning Manchester City boss has become known for his signature style on the touchline – and might just have been influenced by Antonio Miro.

During his time in La Liga at Barcelona, Guardiola accepted an invitation from Miro which didn’t go down too well with then manager Johan Cruyff.

Catalan fashion designer Miro who passed away at the age of 74 last year was behind the clothing, with his son David recently explaining the collaboration.

He told Mundial Magazine: “Pep asked my father in the 90s if he could model for him. My dad was an FC Barcelona supporter, so he liked the idea and said yes.

“Johan Cruyff punished Pep afterwards for being unprofessional, and when some years later Barcelona’s defender Gerard Pique asked the same to my father, Guardiola didn’t let him.

“The funny thing about it all is that every single garment Guardiola wore in that show was sold out in a few days.”

One Twitter user said in response: “No wonder his fashion game is always top notch.”

Following City’s 2018/19 Premier League victory, Guardiola auctioned off a coat that had become iconic, raising thousands for the club charity.
