Chelsea reporter struck with pint after Dortmund goal as beer adds insult to injury
A member of Chelsea’s social media team was “hit by a pint” by one of the Borussia Dortmund fans.
Graham Potter’s side were left cursing their poor finishing after losing the first leg of the Champions League clash against the Bundesliga giants. The 2021 competition winners had numerous chances to find the back of the net in Germany, but a combination of sloppy finishing and an inspired performance from Dortmund shot-stopper Gregor Kobel kept them at bay.
Karim Adeyemi punished the Blues’ woeful form in front of goal with a wonderful solo goal on the counterattack. That was to the detriment of Chelsea’s admin who found themselves in the line of fire of the iconic Yellow Wall.

It would be advisable to bring an umbrella hat, for yourself and for your laptop, if you ever find yourself on match report or live tweet duty at the Signal Iduna Park. It’s fair to say, the Blues online reporters found this out the hard way.
“Sorry for the delay, admin’s just been hit by a pint from above,” Chelsea’s official account tweeted to their 24million followers on Twitter. That incident confounded an extremely frustrating afternoon for anybody affiliated with the club.
Chelsea could have been returning to west London with a very impressive first leg lead, had it not been for their toothlessness in front of goal. In the first half, Joao Felix sent a very presentable opportunity flying over, before hitting the crossbar when he only had the goalkeeper to beat.

Kalidou Koulibaly also struck an effort straight at Kobel when Ruben Loftus-Cheek found him on the penalty spot in a world of space. In the end, for anybody who is a Chelsea player, coach, fan, or employee, it quite simply was not their day.
“We have to do better,” Potter admitted. “We were pushing at the time (of the goal) and were the better team so to concede in that manner is what we’re disappointed in, but the players are honest. They know they can do better with that. We have to help them, of course, but again we’ll probably focus on the positive, which was the performance was another step forward for us.
“Before the game we were looking at Reece (James) and Ruben (Loftus-Cheek) and Ben (Chilwell) and Kalidou (Koulibaly), you know it’s their first and second games for quite some time. It isn’t easy to pick up the speed of the Champions League but I still think they did it really well, you’ve still got three new players coming in and again playing against a team that is in a good moment.
“So hopefully I think we will improve and then in three weeks’ time we can take the game at Stamford Bridge.”
