Mum’s hilarious cake fail brings a smile on the face of hundreds: ‘You can see the love and effort’

Mum’s hilarious cake fail for her toddler’s birthday leaves home bakers in stitches: ‘I found out I’m not so good at this after all’

A mum has left hundreds in hysterics after convincing herself she could DIY a ‘professional’ drip-cake for her toddler’s birthday – and not quite achieving the goal.

Dani, from the US, shared photos of a cake she attempted after finding a design she liked on the internet.

But the results were far from ideal – which caused the mum to admit her own defeat and relegate her attempt to an official ‘cake fail’.

‘This is my inspiration vs what I made myself,’ she captioned her post on a popular Facebook group dedicated to cake fails.

Her inspiration cake had a beautiful buttercream base with thin strands of pink and blue icing dripped along the sides.

A mum recently fell victim to hubris in a hilarious way when she convinced herself she could DIY a professional drip-cake for her toddler’s birthday

It also featured tiny icing flowers with macarons, pearls, sprinkles, and an ice cream cone on top.

The mum explained, ‘I wanted to make a drip cake for my toddler’s birthday this weekend, and I decided to do a practice run.’

The photos of her outcome were far from what was intended – the small vanilla cake was frosted hastily with a thick layer of purple frosting applied on top.

Dani also did not use pearls, icing flowers, or a cone on her homemade cake.

The delicate drips from the inspiration picture could not be replicated, and the mum was left with a ‘fail’ – though it probably tasted great.

Not satisfied with the results, the mum eventually decided to place an order with a bakery for her daughter’s birthday instead.

‘I’m so glad I did, because I found out I am not good at this! It looks like I’ll be placing a cake order ASAP,’ she wrote.

Some mums in the comments shared some tips and tricks for the next time Dani attempts a complicated cake – with many applauding her effort.

‘An icing bag and a lazy Susan will go a long way,’ one mum said.

‘Half the battle is getting the right ingredients and the right consistency! For me I would use white chocolate and cocoa butter plus an oil based colour – don’t use gel as this will seize the chocolate and make it thick and clumpy.’

‘Don’t compare your 1st to someone’s 100th! I started doing cakes a few years ago for my kids and it’s definitely something that takes time and practice. This really isn’t a bad start.’

‘As a person with decorating experience … drip is difficult! And you have to also remember, beautiful doesn’t mean it tastes good, and messy doesn’t mean it tastes bad! I think it’s adorable for a first try, definitely got a chuckle from me.’

‘I miss my mum’s disastrous cakes. They were never much to look at but you could always taste the love that went into it,’ a man wrote wistfully.
