Bukayo Saka goal from ‘shocking’ Tyrone Mings error comes hours after his new Villa deal

Bukayo Saka’s wonder goal from a “shocking” error by Tyrone Mings came hours after his new Aston Villa deal was announced.

Arsenal equalised against Villa just 11 minutes after falling behind at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon as Saka lashed the ball past Emiliano Martinez to punish a mistake from Mings. The Villa defender headed Ben White’s cross directly into the path of the Gunners winger after choosing not to leave the ball for Martinez to catch.

Fans did not hold back in their analysis of Mings’ defending in the build-up to the goal, having gifted Saka the opportunity to level the score.

One fan tweeted: “Absolutely shocking from Mings once again. Poor defender. Always give you chances!” Another wrote: “Why does Mings head it back into a dangerous area.”

A third fan also joked: “Beautiful set up by Mings.” Meanwhile, one more added: “Another Mings error leading to a goal, waters wet.”

Mings’ error came just a day after Villa announced that he had signed a new long-term deal with the club. His new three-and-a-half year deal runs until the summer of 2026.

In a statement, Villa said: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract with the club. The defender is closing in on 150 appearances in claret and blue having initially joined on loan in 2019.

“Mings helped Villa clinch promotion to the Premier League at the end of his first season before signing permanently for the club.

“He has gone on to become a mainstay at the heart of defence for Villa and has been capped by England on the international stage.”

Luckily for Mings, Villa restored their lead shortly after the half hour mark as Philippe Coutinho finished off a fine flowing move by sweeping the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.

A win for Villa would see Unai Emery’s side pull level on points with 10th place Chelsea in the table and 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
