Ryan Reynolds ‘needs a drink’ after Wrexham score incredible 96th minute winner

Ryan Reynolds was in need of a drink while Rob McElhenney joked he may have a heart attack after Wrexham won a seven-goal thriller in the 96th minute.

The National League side triumphed in a rollercoaster clash away at Aldershot, with their Hollywood actor owners watching on from afar. A Paul Mullin brace put them two to the good before Oliver Pendlebury got one back for the hosts.

A Corey Jordan own goal restored the visitors’ two-goal lead. But Aldershot hit back again through Jake Hutchinson, and a Jordan Tunnicliffe own goal late on looked to have ensured it would be honours even at the Recreation Ground.

But substitute Sam Dalby popped up with a header in the sixth minute of stoppage time to give Wrexham a massive three points in their promotion push.

Reynolds, who would’ve been watching the match in the morning in America, tweeted: “Really testing the limits of appropriate drinking hours. Dear god, @Wrexham_AFC.”

McElhenney, meanwhile, posted: “I very may well die of a cardiac event this season. Football is magic/hell.”

Wrexham kept pace with title rivals Notts County, who had secured a 4-1 victory away at Yeovil. The Welsh side are five points off the league leaders.

They do, however, have two games in hand because of their FA Cup run which came to an end with defeat in their fifth-round replay at Sheffield United earlier this month.

Should they win both of those, they would climb back to the summit, where they need to be to achieve automatic promotion to the football league. A second-placed finish would mean a second successive season in the play-offs, in which they were beat by Grimsby Town last year.
