Aaron Chalmers’ strict weight loss for Floyd Mayweather after scoffing ‘six meals a day’

Aaron Chalmers has a strict weight-loss plan for his exhibition meeting against Floyd Mayweather having enjoyed six meals a day before the fight was confirmed.

The former Bellator star, who found fame on reality shows Geordie Shore and Ex on the Beach, threw his hat into the ring to face Mayweather on February 25 at The O2 with a matter of weeks to go.

Having ramped up training after previously preparing for a far less experienced opponent, the 35-year-old has also been on a strict diet to keep his weight in check.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport , Chalmers said: “I was supposed to be on a Misfits card, but obviously the Floyd chance came in and it was literally a no-brainer so I was training anyway.

“But I was training for an 80kg fight – I was enjoying five or six meals a day and now I’m down to three meals and I’ve got a lot of weight to cut.

“With training we’ve had to ramp it up because… how do you train for the best fighter ever? So we are just training to be as fit and as physical as possible with plenty of output.

Floyd Mayweather has been weighing in at 70kgs for recent exhibitions

“Obviously if I’m not throwing that’s when you start to become a sitting target, so just trying to be as fit as I possibly can.”

With Chalmers standing at 5ft 10in, he will have a height advantage over the five-weight former boxing world champion who stands at 5ft 8in.

With the official weight limit for the bout, dubbed Royal Pain, being 72kgs – Chalmers has some work to do having been aiming at a weight of 8kgs higher at the beginning of the year.

Mayweather weighed in at 70kgs for his most recent bout against Deji Olatunji, who hit the scales at 79.5 kgs and went on to lose in the sixth round.

When taking on Don Moore back in 2022, Mayweather also weighed in at 70kgs, as he did when taking on Logan Paul – who came in at 86kgs as they fought to a draw.

Chalmers, on the other hand, fought at both lightweight (70.3kgs) and welterweight (77kgs) during his MMA career as well as at 73kgs for his boxing debut last year.

Aaron Chalmers retired from MMA after fighting in BAMMA and Bellator

Following three wins on UK based BAMMA he was snapped up by Bellator, winning two of his four bouts before retiring and moving into boxing.

Chalmers won on his professional debut at the Echo Arena in Liverpool back in June but began to question his switch before booking a bout with the greatest of all time.

He said: “I thought I wasn’t getting anywhere with fighting or training, six weeks later I’m in the running to fight Floyd Mayweather at The O2.”
