Joe Westerman taunted by rugby fans with brutal chant in first game since sex act video

Joe Westerman was taunted by Super League fans on his return to action with Castleford Tigers after being caught performing a public sex act on a woman in an alleyway.

The 33-year-old returned to former club Hull FC for a domestic fixture after the clip of him with an unidentified woman, which led to the end of his marriage, went viral last weekend.

Having received a loud cheer when his name was read out over the tannoy at the MKM Stadium, a new chant could be heard from rival fans – which was clearly aimed in his direction.

The crowd were heard chanting: “Sing when you’re r***ing, you only sing when you’re r***ing!”

Westerman’s wife Lauren quickly announced that she wasn’t the woman in the video after it was shared on social media, then said that she would not be forgiving him.

The footage emerged following what he described as a 15-hour drunken bender, saying that he has no knowledge of the incident in question. The former couple have three children together.

Despite the incident, Westerman was included in the starting 13 by Castleford boss Lee Radford this weekend and even smiled after being mocked while getting off the coach.

In an interview with The Sun, Lauren had said: “It’s all gone. The kids won’t be able to see him play again because of the chants he will now inspire.

“I just hope in time they can forget it.”

The debacle has cost him his marriage to wife Lauren

Castleford had said in a statement: “Following an internal investigation, Castleford Tigers can confirm that Joe Westerman has been issued a substantial fine and will also be required to undertake community service.”

With the player saying: “Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologise to my family and friends for my actions. I’d also like to apologise to the supporters, sponsors, staff, and directors of Castleford Tigers as well as my teammates.

“I’d like to extend this apology to the game of rugby league, and I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.”
