So favoured was Hardy, the Knucklemania commentary team described the defeat as a “massive upset.”

Prior to his bare knuckle fighting debut, Hardy had been involved with the UFC after joining president Dana White’s Contender Series back in 2018.

He made his UFC debut in January 2019 but lost that bout to Allen Crowder after an illegal knee. Hardy’s foray into combat sports came about after his NFL career was ended by a deluge of domestic assault accusations.

After a breakout 15-sack season in 2013 for the Carolina Panthers, in which he earned All-Pro honours, Hardy was accused that following summer of assault by an ex-girlfriend, who alleged the former defensive end threatened to kill her.

While the domestic violence charges were eventually dropped in November 2015, Hardy was deactivated after one game into the 2014 NFL season by the Panthers, who he would never play for again.

Hardy would later go on to sign a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, but was suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season. He went on to have a six sack season for the Cowboys who went 4-12, and who opted against signing Hardy to a long-term deal.
