Neil Warnock pays emotional tribute to John Motson who would ‘never let you down’

Huddersfield Town boss Neil Warnock hailed John Motson as someone who’d “never let you down” following his death aged 77.

Warnock, who came out of retirement last week to take change of Huddersfield until the end of the season, paid tribute to Motson in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Championship side’s trip to face Burnley this weekend.

The legendary commentator died peacefully in his sleep, his family confirmed in a statement this morning (February 23). Reflecting on the news, Warnock, 74, said: “The good times and the bad times, he’s been around. Always level headed, never too far up and never too low.

“He was always steady and they’re the type you want as a manager. You knew if you said anything to John off the record it would be off the record, he’d never let you down in anything like that.

“I’m so sad to hear the news, for his family. He was somebody that epitomised the sport that they’re in. I used to love listening to one of the cricket commentators and the golf commentator and I liked John, I thought John’s voice was soothing.

“Always reassuring. Very good at his job, very factual. Whereas I pick up a piece of paper when I’m on tele and scribble a few things.
