Newcastle’s fourth-choice keeper married to stunning WAG – and could play in Carabao Cup

Newcastle United’s fourth-choice goalkeeper Mark Gillespie is married to a stunning WAG and could play in the Carabao Cup final.

Gillespie could be handed a shock re-call to the Newcastle side for Sunday’s final at Wembley Stadium, more than two years on from his last first-team appearance. First-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope is suspended and Martin Dubravka is cup-tied for the match, leaving Eddie Howe with Gillespie and former Liverpool keeper Loris Karius as his only goalkeeping options.

If Gillespie is chosen to start against Manchester United at Wembley, then he will be cheered on from the stands by his wife Sally Rea.

Stunning interior designer Rea runs her own business, called Rea Interiors, and shows off their portfolio of work on social media, with their Instagram page having almost 8,000 followers.

The couple are understood to have first started dating back in 2015 and welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in December 2020. Although Rea’s social media accounts are private, Gillespie often shares snaps from their luxurious travels on his own feeds.

Gillespie will be hoping that his wife and daughter will see him and his team-mates lift the Carabao Cup on Sunday, with Howe providing an update on the goalkeeping situation ahead of the weekend.

Speaking on Thursday, via The Chronicle, the Newcastle boss explained: “Very normal, really. They’re two goalkeepers who have been part of our goalkeeping unit all year.

“They train every day with the two coaches. They’ve been excellent. Their attitude to everything they’ve done has been very good.

“I know the focus from the media will be all on them expecting some big reaction, but it’s just (been) to work. To work as normal and get them ready for the game.”

Howe added that he is not concerned by Gillespie and Karius’ lack of game time going into the match. Gillespie last played for the Magpies in September 2020, with all three of his appearances for the club coming in the Carabao Cup during that month.

He had returned to St. James’ Park in the summer of 2020, signing from Motherwell after previously spending eight years in the Newcastle academy before joining Carlisle United in 2008.
