UK’s top fish and chip shops revealed – read full list of Britain’s best batterers
The UK’s top fish and chip shops have been revealed, as the categories for the 2023 National Fish and Chip awards have been announced.
The annual awards ceremony, hosted this year by comedian Jason Manford, will take place in London next week (February 28) as organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers – yes, Daily Star readers, that is a thing.
Winners of the awards are decided by a panel of anonymous experts who taste-test every finalist.

A spokesman said: ”All nominees have shown an outstanding approach to sustainability, retained and cared for their staff and maintained hope and strength during the recent challenging years – all of which aligns with the core values of the NFFF.”

The big award, Fish and Chip Takeaway of the Year, has 10 nominees.
They are:
- Fisherman’s Bay, Whitley Bay
- Fish Kitchen 1854, Maesycwmmer
- Whiteheads Fish & Chips, Hornsea
- Ship Deck, Trethomas
- The Bearded Sailor, Pudsey
- The Fish Bank, Sherburn in Elmet
- Low’s Traditional Fish & Chips, Westhill
- The Oyster Shell, Bath
- Auckley Friery, Doncaster
- The Fish Works, Largs
There are just five restaurants nominated for Best Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year, including the Cods Scallops in West Bridgford, Eric’s Fish & Chips in Thornham, Fish City in Belfast, Henry’s of Hunstanton, and the Malt and Anchor in Cirencester.

Nominated for the Best Newcomer Award is Haughton Fish and Chips in Haugton, Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough in Bridlington, and Hendo’s Fish & Chips in Bury St Edmunds.
Another top award is the Field to Frier Award, recognising three restaurants for their approach to sustainability.
The nominees are Pier Point Fish & Chips in Torquay, Fiddlers Elbow Fish & Chips in Leintwardine, and The Real Food Café in Tyndrum.

And up for the Best Mobile Operator Award is Pump My Fish in Burwell, The Chippie Van in Penrith, and Jojo’s Fish & Chips in Stafford.
There are several other business-related awards up for grabs, too.
The big event will take place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.
