Princess Eugenie’s 33rd birthday ‘could be her last in the UK as a senior royal’

Princess Eugenie turns 33 today (March 23) amid speculation that it could be her last birthday in the UK before leaving for the United States.

Eugenie, who’s expecting her second child, is known to be close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and that bond has led to reports that a life overseas might be on the cards for the younger of Andrew and Fergie’s two daughters.

But the recent news that she and her family have been given the keys to the grace-and-favour Frogmore House after the Sussexes were told to get out suggests that rumours of their impending departure to America might be off the mark.

Although Harry and Meghan have had an increasingly tense relationship with several members of the Royal Family, they are known to be close to Eugenie and Jack, and have gone on the record about their friendship.

There’s been speculation that Eugenie could follow Meghan to the US

In the startling interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 that marked a new low in relations within the Royal Family, Meghan said: “Eugenie and I had known each other before I had known Harry, so that was comfortable.”

She added that she and Harry were also pals with Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank. “We’re friends with them as a couple,” Meghan said.

In fact, it seems that Eugenie and Jack were close enough to Harry and Meghan that they knew of the future Sussexes’ relationship before it was publicly revealed.

Recalling their early days together, Meghan told Ellen DeGeneres: “[Harry] came to see me in Toronto and our friends and his cousin Eugenie and now her husband Jack, they came as well, and the four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple.”

Jack has been offered a job promotion, and it’s thought this will see him spending more time on the other side of the Atlantic, as well as travelling to Portugal.

And with Jack, Eugenie and their son August, aged 2, being spotted on long trips to LA recently, the speculation about their future intensified.

But now they’ve been handed Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor, a permanent move across the pond is looking less likely.

Fergie has shared snaps of her daughters online

It was originally thought that Prince Andrew would move into Frogmore, but it was revealed recently that Eugenie is “determined to have the baby in the UK and bring up her children in England”.

Their move into Frogmore doesn’t appear to have caused a rift with the Sussexes.

A source said: “The Sussexes are disappointed by the move but couldn’t be happier that Eugenie and Jack will take it over. They have been staying there on and off for the past few years anyway.”

Meanwhile, Eugenie’s mum, Sarah Ferguson – who recently said she considered herself to be “Anglo-American” and referred to the US as her “home” – has shared adorable snaps of both her daughters online to mark Women’s History Month.

In her Instagram post, Fergie said: “To celebrate #womenshistorymonth this year, I want to thank & remember a few of the women I admire deeply, all of whom have had such a special influence on my life.

“My mother, my kind stepmother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who was a mother to me, my sisters Jane, Alice, Eliza, Diana and Lisa Marie Presley, who are family to me, and of course my magnificent daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie.”
