Wheelchair-bound West Ham fan says ‘they give me hope I can be a footballer’
West Ham fans have hailed a wheelchair-using supporter who says he ‘has hope of becoming a professional footballer’ after watching them get torn apart by Newcastle.
Fed-up fan George Barnard spoke to West Ham TV following the 5-1 drubbing – and came out with one of the most memorable fan reactions of the season.
Speaking to their YouTube channel, George said: “That was singled-handled one of the worst games I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve seen some s*** in my life… that’s up there 100%.”

He added: “That first goal, what is (Thilo) Kehrer doing. I can’t even walk yeah, but watching him play football gives me hope that I can be a footballer myself.
“He’s f***ing horrendous. It’s awful, every game.” He concluded of David Moyes: “He should’ve been gone in August. Can he go? Yeah. Will he? Probably not.”
One fan replied: “Best comment ever. LEGEND.” A second posted: “That’s one of the best interviews ever.” A third said: “This guy is brilliant.”
West Ham fans, who would you choose to replace David Moyes? Tell us in the comments section below.
West Ham sit 15th in the Premier League table following seven wins from their 28 fixtures – only sitting outside the relegation zone on goal difference.
Despite that, Moyes is confident he has the backing of the board while the club also prepare for their UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final against Gent.
He said: “They are behind me [the board], but if you lose badly like that as a manager you’re always in danger.”
Skipper Declan Rice told Sky Sports that the players are behind the manager, with eyes now on Saturday’s trip to take on Fulham.
He said: “I love working with the manager, so do the players, how he is as a man, he is great with us. Fans voice their opinions, they want to see results and performances. It is tough, you have to block out the noise, as captain I have to keep the boys on it.
“I’ve been down in a relegation fight at West Ham before and there has been negativity, but there is not that with this group of boys.”
