Jalen Hurts becomes highest-paid player in NFL history with monster new Eagles contract

Jalen Hurts has become the highest-paid player in NFL history, after signing a five-year £206million ($255million) contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFC franchise announced the record-breaking news today (April 17) as they tie up Hurts’ future following his breakout season.

The 24-year-old was voted Second-team All Pro after leading the Eagles to a 14-1 record in the 15 regular-season games he played in the 2022/23 season.

Hurts’ whopping contract includes £144m ($179m) in total guarantees, including £89m ($110m) fully guaranteed at the signing of the contract as well as £102m ($126m) fully guaranteed by March 2024.

The contract also includes the first no-trade clause in Eagles franchise history, which means that the quarterback is not allowed to be traded to another club without the consent of Hurts himself.

Hurts is under contract for the next six years and receives a raise this year and a £18.5m ($23m) signing bonus as the quarterback will make a stunning £51m ($64m) in the first new year of the contract in 2024.

The deal was negotiated by Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, who is the President of Football Operations of Klutch Sports, a sports agency founded by Rich Paul, the long-time friend of NBA icon, LeBron James.

The contract is believed to be the largest contract ever negotiated by a female agent.

After becoming the Eagles full-time starter in 2021, the Houston native came into his own this past season after passing for 22 touchdowns and six interceptions, and 3,701 yards.

The dual-threat quarterback also ran for 760 yards and had 13 rushing touchdowns.

The total guarantee of £144m ($179m) for Hurts ranks as the second-largest in NFL history behind only fellow quarterback Deshaun Watson’s five-year, £186m ($230m) contract with the Cleveland Browns last year.

The total amount of cash in Hurts’ contract also ranks second in NFL history behind the 10-year, £364m ($450m) extension Patrick Mahomes signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020.
