Prisoner Charles Bronson sending out ‘insanity awards’ for fans for big money

Charles Bronson is sending out ‘Insanity Awards’ to fans from behind bars.

Britain’s most notorious lag, 70 – declared insane by a prison doctor at HMP Parkhurst in 1978 – was recently left devastated when the parole board turned down his latest bid for freedom after nearly half a century in prison.

After rebranding himself as jailhouse artist Charles Salvador Dalí in a nod to the Spanish surrealist painter icon he has been trying to funnel his rage at being denied freedom into creating art for his fans.

With his fans devastated by the controversial decision, Bronson’s been dispatching arty certificates to his pen pals for themselves, and as gifts for their friends and family.

Our exclusive picture of one of the “awards” shows they come in the form of an arty brown scroll drawn on grey sheets – marked ‘Certificate of Madness’.

The ‘awards’ come with a drawing showing a birdman breaking out of a shell and howling: “I fancy a nice apple pie.”

They also come with the message: “Congratulations in winning this award. Very few ever win it. Many try. But fail…

“Your a totally unique person – With a true heart of madness.”

In an extra special message that will delight the recipients, Bronson signs off the tribute with: “We salute you. Respect!”

One Bronson fan gushed online about the certificates: “These are genius. I’m asking him for one for my old man who’ll love it.”

Another added: “There’s no one better to get a Madness Cert from than Charlie!”

Bronson’s art sells from between £1,000 to £30,000 an image.

Following a hearing the panel said that he “genuinely wants to progress” but remained concerned of his persistent rule-breaking” and the fact he “sees little wrong with this”.

While some agree with the decision, others believe he’s served significantly more time than needed.
