Man City lift Premier League trophy as wild celebrations begin at the Etihad

Manchester City have been crowned Premier League champions with yet another Etihad trophy lift after their final home game of the season.

Pep Guardiola made nine changes but watched his side cruise to a 1-0 win over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea a day after their status as champions was officially confirmed – with Julian Alvarez on target.

Despite only twice sitting top of the table all season before the final six games of the campaign, Arsenal’s collapse gave them a path to a fifth title from six seasons.

A 1-0 win over Chelsea marked a 12th domestic victory in a row, with a chance to complete a historic treble over the final weeks of the season.

Manchester United await in the FA Cup final on June 3, with Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul a week later.

In the league, City have 93 goals across their first 36 matches, winning 28 and losing just four to sit seven clear of Arsenal with a game in hand.

Despite those changes, City still comfortably saw off Chelsea’s expensive collection of flops thanks to an early goal from Julian Alvarez, who replaced Haaland in the starting line-up.

The Blues barely threatened City and after the final whistle thousands of supporters stormed onto the pitch to celebrate, delaying the trophy lift, and being greeted with boos from fans who remained in the stands. But once the playing area was finally cleared, the players could get their hands on their medals and the all-important trophy.
