Sheik Jassim submits final Man Utd bid – and sets strict deadline for Glazers

Sheik Jassim has included a strict 48-deadline in his final bid to buy Manchester United.

The Qatari national is still hopeful of seeing off Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race to acquire the Premier League giants but is growing tired of the delays from the Glazer family, who are still yet to name a preferred bidder.

Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat to arch-rivals Manchester City signalled the end of the season for the Red Devils but there is still no clear indication as to whom will be pulling the strings when the transfer window opens on June 14th.

Sheik Jassim’s latest bid, believed to be an improvement on the previous bid which fell just shy of £5bn, was submitted to the American investment bank The Raine Group today.

As well as a full purchase of Man Utd, the bid includes a commitment to wiping out £1bn worth of debt on top of a funded pot to redevelop Old Trafford, the surrounding area and their Carrington training complex.

INEOS owner Ratcliffe, who is offering to buy either 69 per cent or more should the Glazers retain a fifth of the shares, has submitted a bid in excess of £5bn but both offers still fall short of The Raine Group’s £6bn valuation.

With the transfer window days away, manager Erik ten Hag has pleaded for a swift solution surrounding the club’s ongoing uncertainty and the need to strengthen his side for next season.

“The club knows that if you want to play top four, if you want to compete for trophies in this tough league, you have to invest, he said after United’s FA Cup final defeat. “Otherwise you won’t progress because other clubs will.

“We saw it in the winter. All the clubs around us invested. We didn’t and still, we made it [into the Champions League]. So I am really happy and proud of my team.”
