Floating restaurant ‘trapped in time’ after sinking with ‘fridges still stocked’

The restaurant has been closed ‘until further notice’ since the converted paddle steamer-turned-steakhouse began to sink on December 23 of last year – it has sat untouched since

An urban explorer has braved the abandoned restaurant that sank last year.

The Miller and Carter restaurant at Lakeside Shipping Centre, located on a converted paddle steamer, was abandoned after tilting into the water on December 23, 2023.

Explorer ‘Urban Banana’ previously braved the sunken steak house in May of this year, but has now returned for a second visit.

He found the site, which some have described as similar to that of the Titanic, still abandoned and in the same state as the day it closed.

Currently, the restaurant remains closed until further notice due to the severe leak, as reported by Essex Live.

Inside, you can see a Christmas tree still fully decorated and on display, tables set for customers and drink fridges fully stocked.

Urban Banana previously described his first visit to the restaurant as “very unique” having also been to nuclear bunkers, train yards, factories and mansions.

He said: “A family member sent me a news article about the sunken ship days after it had been reported.

“I immediately wanted to explore the ship but I was out of the country in a three-month urbex mission around Europe. The thought of exploring a partially submerged restaurant filled me with excitement.”

No one was injured during the initial sinking incident as everyone onboard was safely evacuated.
