Top 100 long list for the 2023 Golden Boy Index

The 2023 Golden Boy Index was announced on Tuesday morning, with a high contingency of English-born players and Premier League youngsters included.  

Jude Bellingham, Harvey Elliott and Rico Lewis have all been named in the top 20 for the 2023 Index – which sees Italian newspaper Tuttosport collaborate with The Times and L’Equipe to find the best youngster. 

It is a prestigious award that has been picked up by some of the biggest names in football to date – including the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Anthony Martial.

Bellingham – who recently signed for LaLiga giants Real Madrid in a deal worth £113million – has been recognised in the 2023 Index for his impressive contribution at Borussia Dortmund

While Harvey Elliott and Rico Lewis have been credited for their performances in the Premier League during the 2022-2023 campaign – occupying 14th and 17th place respectively.

They are joined by nine other players who are either English or play their football in the Premier League. 

Jamal Musiala occupies the top spot after being as the highest rated youngster according to the Golden Boy Index. However, there are several English players nipping at his toes.

Bellingham trails just behind the Bayern Munich star in second place, while Pablo Gavi comes in third place. 

Bellingham’s inclusion was hardly surprising given he was recently named Bundesliga player of the season after his starring role for Dortmund, who missed out on the title in agonising fashion on the final day of the campaign. 

He scored his first England goal in their World Cup win over Iran before completing a £113m move to Real Madrid this summer.

In terms of Premier League youngsters, Elliott has been included this year’s Golden Boy Index and sits 14th in the standings. 

Lewis from Manchester City also features in 17th place, while Levi Colwill from Brighton sits in 23rd place. 

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho made his way into the top 50, placing 32nd on the Golden Boy Index.

Brighton also had a strong contingency with Evan Ferguson (44), Julio Enciso (48) and Facundo Buonanotte (86) working their way into the top 100. 

Lewis Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka also made an appearance, occupying in 95th and 98th place respectively. While City’s Maximo Perrone came in at 96. 

There were several English youngsters playing their football abroad that also creeped into the Golden Boy Index.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens – who plays his football at Borussia Dortmund – has been named as the 39th highest rated player, while Iling-Junior – who plays for Juventus – came in 92nd.
