Floyd Mayweather went ‘nuclear’ after discovering pop star unfollowed him

Floyd Mayweather reportedly went “nuclear” after discovering Justin Bieber unfollowed him on Instagram.

The now-retired legendary boxer and Bieber struck up a close bond after the pop sensation emerged as one of the biggest singers on the planet a decade ago.

Despite a 17-year age difference, the pair were frequently in the public eye together. The ‘Biebs’ even accompanied ‘Money’ Mayweather on his ring walks before some of the boxer’s biggest fights, including against Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez.

But Mayweather was left seething and feeling betrayed when the Canadian suddenly unfollowed him on Instagram in 2017.

TMZ claimed Bieber had tried to clean up his image by becoming involved in the Hillsong Church group. The outlet revealed Hillsong advised the singer to strip away “bad influences” in his life, with the strip club-loving fighter believed to be one of them.

And with the importance placed on social media these days, Mayweather was said to have gone “ballistic and nuclear” after catching wind of the snub. He even reportedly called Bieber a “traitor”, bringing their relationship to a crashing halt.

Mayweather had notably come out in support of Bieber previously when old footage resurfaced of the ‘Baby’ singer making offensive jokes. The former world champion stuck his neck out by saying everyone makes mistakes when they’re young.

Bieber later played down talks of a rift, explaining in an interview with TMZ that he had “nothing against Floyd”.

“We just need to create boundaries and stuff when it comes to certain things,” he added.

Mayweather also went on to publicly end the beef by appearing to sympathise with Bieber’s new pursuits.

He told Hollywood Unlocked: “Justin Bieber is at a point, he’s in a place right now, that he’s focused on church, he’s focused on his new team, he’s focused on the Lord, and the only thing I can do is give him the utmost respect.

“To each his own. I’m not here to be negative and talk bad about anyone.”
