Lord Frost proposes increasing the retirement age to 75 in order to reduce government expenditures.

  • A prominent member of the Conservative Party suggests that the Prime Minister should utilize their conference speech to articulate their vision for society.

Yesterday, Lord Frost proposed increasing the retirement age to 75 as a means to reduce government expenses and the size of the state.

The Tory grandee, who was former PM Boris Johnson’s Brexit negotiator, made the remarks at a party conference fringe meeting on the Future of Conservatism.

He encouraged government officials to reduce public spending and taxes and prioritize economic growth. He acknowledged that implementing these measures would involve modifying the state pension system.

He stated that in order to address the issue of reducing public expenditure, it is necessary for the pension age to be increased significantly.

“I believe that is the most effective approach for resolving the situation in the foreseeable future.”

Lord Frost urged the Government to make public spending cuts while raising the state pension age to 75, at a fringe meeting on the Future of Conservatism

At a side meeting on the Future of Conservatism, Lord Frost encouraged the Government to implement public spending reductions and increase the state pension age to 75.

When asked if the age limit should be raised to 70, he responded, “75, that’s significantly higher.”

He stated that people are now in better health compared to the past and believes that the spending on health, pension, and benefits should increase. According to him, addressing these areas is crucial for effective tackling of issues.

“I believe it is necessary to take action, such as implementing a freeze or a near freeze, on the public sector health budget. We should also explore a fair and widely accepted approach to redirect future spending towards the private sector. Otherwise, the public sector will continue to consume a significant portion of the budget in the near future.”

He also criticized the leadership style of Rishi Sunak, referring to it as ‘managerial’.

The Tory grandee added that the Prime Minister should use his keynote speech tomorrow to 'paint a picture' of how a Conservative Britain differs from a Labour vision

The senior member of the Conservative Party suggested that the Prime Minister should utilize his important speech tomorrow to illustrate the contrasting visions of a Conservative Britain and the Labour Party.

When asked about his expectations for Mr Sunak’s conference speech tomorrow, he expressed his desire for a description of the contrasting visions between Conservative Britain, in the event of their victory, and Labour Britain.

“What is your perspective on society? How do you envision its functioning? What are the respective roles of government and individuals? What defines the essence of Conservative Britain?”

“I cannot reword.”

“I also propose that we make a commitment to implement a reduction in taxes prior to the upcoming election, along with the corresponding reductions in government spending.”

The current age for receiving state pension is 66. In March, government officials postponed making a decision regarding the timing of an increase in the state pension age.
