On Friday, Fiona Bruce appeared in good spirits as she ventured out following her disclosure of the injuries sustained in a recent horse riding incident.

The BBC presenter, 59, cut a laidback figure in a light blue cardigan and a pair of denim jeans.

She wore a striped T-shirt in blue and white, without any makeup, revealing a glimpse of her bruised eye.

Fiona maintained a cheerful expression, despite the visible bruise that appeared to be painful. Her hand remained wrapped in a bandage and supported by a sling.

On Thursday night, she caused worry among Question Time viewers when she appeared on the show with her injuries.

Before commencing the discussion with her guests, Fiona shared that she had experienced an unfortunate mishap during her horseback riding.

She informed the audience: ‘I wanted to bring it up briefly. It’s the least captivating aspect of the show, but in case you were curious.

I sustained injuries to my hand and have a lingering black eye as a result of falling off a horse. That’s the extent of what I wish to share on the matter.

In 2011, Fiona began horse riding and mentioned in a 2021 interview with The Daily Mail that she was not an expert.

She stated that she began horse riding at a later stage in life. She acknowledged that she may not excel at it, but expressed her passion for it.

Engaging in this activity transports me to another realm. My mind becomes solely focused on it, leaving no room for other thoughts. I thoroughly enjoy being in the presence of horses, relishing in the exhilarating sensation of speed and the freedom of being outside.

Fiona confessed that her GP’s remarks about her lack of physical activity made her feel extremely embarrassed and ashamed, which motivated her to start exercising.

She described how the doctor was extremely shocked by her complete lack of physical activity, until she completely changed her lifestyle after giving birth to her first son, Sam, who is now 21 years old.

The journalist on air stated that they had never engaged in any physical activity until they visited a general practitioner either before or shortly after the birth of their child, Sam.

I was questioned about my physical activity, and I responded by saying that I did not engage in any exercise. The doctor then asked if I truly meant none at all, to which I confirmed by saying “No.”

I felt extremely embarrassed by her strong reaction, so I made a decision to take action.

Exercise is not solely about prolonging life for me; rather, it provides me with energy and I cannot fathom my state without it.

I absolutely experience mental advantages. When I feel stressed at work or overwhelmed by a heavy workload, I find it extremely beneficial.

In 2016, Fiona recounted the sound of her bone breaking during the trampolining accident which resulted in her delivering the news while wearing her athletic shoes.

There was a commotion when the news anchor was seen wearing white athletic shoes while presenting.

Bruce informed the Radio Times that she had selected her shoes due to an injury she sustained while trampolining with her daughter Mia.

Fiona shared that she had experienced an unfortunate incident while horseback riding before commencing the discussion with her guests.

She stated that she had been approximately 10 feet above the ground when she descended and forcefully injured her heel, causing the bone above it to become dislocated.

I actually heard the sound. I had plans to go skiing after three weeks, so I was hopeful that I hadn’t fractured it.

‘However, the experience was excruciating and resulted in significant swelling comparable to the size of my thigh. Consequently, I came to the realization that I required assistance.’

The news anchor had to undergo an urgent surgical procedure where a five-inch metal screw and a metal bracket were implanted into her foot.

She mentioned that she had been in a cast for a duration of nine weeks followed by wearing an air boot for six weeks. Her surgeon informed her that it would require a year to completely heal, but her condition would never return to its original state.
