Shocking moment missile strikes Palestinian tower behind reporter

A distressing incident was captured on live television during the conflict between Israel and Palestine, showing a missile strike on a Palestinian tower. The reporter present at the scene was left in shock and distress, resulting in their loud screams.

This is the terrifying moment a missile struck a Palestinian tower behind a Gaza Strip correspondent as she reported live coverage of the bloody conflict between Hamas militants and Israel.

Today, Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist group, caught Israel off guard with a major assault, resulting in the death of at least 200 individuals. They also kidnapped hostages, which included elderly Israeli women and young women who had been physically harmed, from the streets.

Israel retaliated against Hamas by declaring war and conducting airstrikes in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of approximately 198 individuals. Israeli leaders expressed their determination to impose an ‘unprecedented price’ on Hamas.

During the live coverage of a brutal first day of war, an air strike was launched into a populated city where Al Jazeera journalist Youmna El Sayed was reporting.

While informing viewers about the ‘barrages of rockets’ being launched into Gaza, El Sayed – who was wearing a helmet – screamed as she was forced to take cover as a huge fireball erupted behind her. She then turns around to see smoke billowing from what is believed to be a residential building which was destroyed by a missile.

Worried about her coworker’s safety, the news anchor calmly advises her: ‘Please find shelter. If it’s safe for you, you can inform us about the situation. If it’s not safe, please prioritize your own safety.’

She responds, holding back tears: ‘No, it’s fine. This is an assault with missiles targeting a building in Palestine, located in the heart of Gaza City.’

As she grapples with comprehending the explosion that occurred behind her, the presenter interjects, advising her to pause and collect herself, along with her team. We are currently several hours into the ongoing conflict between Gaza and Israel.

‘We have just witnessed live what an Israeli raid looks like on a populated area of Gaza city – what we believe is a residential building.’

The Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated places in the world, with around two million people packed into 140 square miles. But it depends on Israel for water, electricity, telecommunications, and other utilities, and imports are carefully controlled by the occupying country.

The Israeli Minister of Energy and Infrastructure has ordered the immediate suspension of power to the Gaza Strip. ‘I have signed an order instructing Israel’s electric company to stop the electricity supply to Gaza,’ Katz said in a statement.

Israel’s announcement has led to the closure of 80 percent of Gaza’s electricity supplies, according to Gaza’s power authority.

After Hamas, the governing authority of the Gaza Strip, initiated an assault in and near Israeli land earlier today, it resulted in a significant response from Israel.

Amnesty International has urged for an end to the fighting and for the enforcement of international law, thereby putting an end to the illegal blockade on Gaza that has been in place for 16 years, as well as addressing all other forms of apartheid imposed on Palestinians by Israel.

Hamas asserted that they launched 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip, which is currently under Israeli occupation. This action resulted in the activation of air raid sirens in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is currently engaged in a state of conflict and expressed determination to make Hamas, the governing body in Gaza, face severe consequences like never before.

Israeli forces are anticipated to initiate a ground operation in Gaza following the mobilization of a large number of reservists, marking one of the most significant escalations in the Israel-Palestinian conflict in recent years.

Hamas fighters crossed the perimiter fence just after dawn, some paragliding into Israeli territory. At the same time, barrages of rockets were launched from Gaza – some reaching as far as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Hamas, which has called for Arab and Islamic nations to join its attack, were still fighting gunbattles inside several Israeli communities hours after the incursion began.

The national rescue service of Israel reported that the attack resulted in a minimum of 200 fatalities and 1,100 injuries, marking it as the most lethal incident in Israel for several years.

Israel was greatly concerned when an undisclosed number of its soldiers and civilians were captured and transported to Gaza.

The Palestinian health ministry in Gaza reported that a minimum of 198 individuals have lost their lives in Israel’s response, with at least 1,610 sustaining injuries.

In central Gaza City, a 14-storey residential tower, which also serves as Hamas offices, was completely destroyed by airstrikes during the evening.

Israeli fired a warning just before, and the number of casualties was not immediately known.

Shortly after, Hamas launched a series of rockets towards central Israel, targeting four cities, which included Tel Aviv and a neighboring suburb. This resulted in two individuals sustaining severe injuries.

Israelis were taken aback by the attack’s intensity, complexity, and well-timed execution.

Hamas fighters used explosives to break through the border fence enclosing the long-blockaded Mediterranean territory, then crossed with motorcycles, pickup trucks, paragliders and speed boats on the coast.

Bodies of dead Israeli civilians and Hamas militants were seen on the streets of Israeli towns.

Newly released and disturbing video footage reveals women being forcibly taken by armed male fighters and forced into vehicles. These women appear injured and battered, frequently with their hands tied behind their backs. The Hamas militants are seen abducting innocent civilians from the streets of Israel.

Earlier pictures showed Israeli pensioners captured in Israel and taken into the Gaza Strip on golf carts. Other clips showed entire families forced into trucks and being driven off by militants.

Thomas Helm, Jerusalem Correspondent at The National spoke to MailOnline from Jerusalem today. He said the hostage situation set a dangerous tone for how the conflict – which was launched on a Jewish holiday – could develop.

There have been reports of Palestinians capturing an Israeli General and taking entire families as hostages. There have also been point-blank killings and wars initiated due to the abduction of a single Israeli hostage, and now it appears that the number of hostages could be around 60.

“It couldn’t get any worse. Every Israeli I have conversed with has expressed fear in their voices.”

The militants have asserted that they have captured numerous soldiers, however, it is unclear how many civilians have been reportedly held.

According to government sources, Iran has been accused of promoting the recent escalation of conflict, as reported by the Times.

According to a source from Whitehall, the paper was informed that the multifaceted attack bears the markings of the Revolutionary Guards. It is suggested that Hamas is merely being utilized as part of Iran’s ongoing campaign against the West.

Videos shared online appear to show Iranians celebrating news of the conflict, with state television airing a clip of Parliament members chanting: ‘Palestine will be victorious, Israel will be destroyed.’

The attack by Hamas had the potential to escalate into a larger conflict, resembling past confrontations between Israel and the ruling Hamas militants in Gaza. These previous conflicts resulted in extensive casualties and damage in Gaza, as well as several days of rocket attacks on Israeli towns.

Mohammed Deif, the elusive commander of Hamas’ military branch, stated that the attack was a reaction to multiple factors. These included the prolonged blockade of Gaza lasting for 16 years, Israeli incursions into West Bank cities within the past year, escalating violence at Al Aqsa (also known as the Temple Mount) – a contested holy site revered by Jews, increased assaults by settlers on Palestinians, and the expansion of settlements.

He declared that the initial assault in the morning marked the beginning of Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, urging Palestinians residing from east Jerusalem to northern Israel to participate in the conflict.

Today, the individuals are reclaiming their uprising.

During a gathering of high-ranking security officials on Saturday, Mr. Netanyahu emphasized the importance of initially removing infiltrators from southern Israel, and subsequently implementing a stronger response in Gaza.

The serious incursion on Simchat Torah, a normally joyous day when Jews complete the annual cycle of reading the Torah scroll, revived painful memories of the 1973 Mideast war practically 50 years to the day, in which Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, aiming to take back Israeli-occupied territories.

Criticism of Mr Netanyahu and his far-right allies intensified as they were compared to one of the most distressing events in Israeli history. They had campaigned for a more forceful approach to dealing with threats from Gaza.

The government faced severe criticism from political analysts for not foreseeing a highly organized and coordinated Hamas attack.

A rocket is launched from the coastal Gaza strip towards Israel by militants of the Ezz Al-Din Al Qassam militia, the military wing of Hamas movement, in Gaza City, 7 October 2023

On 7 October 2023, militants belonging to the Ezz Al-Din Al Qassam militia, the military faction of the Hamas movement, launched a rocket from the Gaza City in the coastal Gaza strip towards Israel.

When reporters inquired about how Hamas had surprised the army, Lt Col Richard Hecht, a spokesperson for the Israeli army, responded by saying, “That is an excellent question.”

In retaliation for approximately 2,500 rockets that triggered air raid sirens as far as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, located about 50 miles away, the Israeli military launched attacks on targets in Gaza.

It said its forces were engaged in gunfights with Hamas militants who had infiltrated Israel in at least seven locations.

Israel faced a challenging dilemma when Israeli civilians and soldiers were abducted, with the exact number of abductees initially unknown.

Hamas released videos showing the capture of at least three Israelis, while AP photos depicted the abduction of three civilians in Gaza, including two women.

Israeli TV aired footage of a partially undressed young man being forcefully led on foot while in a chokehold. The report also mentioned that individuals with dementia, along with workers from Thailand and the Philippines, were among those being held against their will.

The Israeli military verified that several Israelis were captured.

Abu Obeida, the spokesperson of Hamas’ military division, stated that the group currently has numerous Israeli soldiers in their custody, being kept in secure locations and tunnels within the Gaza Strip.

If the claim is accurate, it could potentially lead to intricate negotiations regarding a potential exchange with Israel, as Israel currently has numerous Palestinians detained in its prisons.

A top Hamas official, Saleh Arouri, told Al-Jazeera TV that his group is holding ‘a large number’ of Israeli prisoners, including senior officers, adding that they will be used in a prisoner exchange to free Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.

Both sides did not disclose the exact number. Israel has a track record of engaging in imbalanced exchanges to secure the release of captive Israelis.

Hamas’s infiltration of fighters into southern Israel resulted in a significant escalation, leading Israelis in the area to seek shelter in safe rooms.

The bodies of a minimum of six individuals who were shot at a bus shelter were placed on stretchers on the street in the town of Sderot.

The bags they had been transporting were placed next to the road, while unpaired shoes were spread out on the pavement.

In another location, a woman from Israel knelt down on the street and hugged a deceased relative. The body of the relative was lying next to a pink motorcycle that was tipped over.

The hand of the rider, wearing a glove, and their foot in a racing boot, were visible protruding from beneath the sheet.

In Nahal Oz, a kibbutz located only 2.5 miles away from the Gaza Strip, frightened residents sought shelter indoors. They expressed their fear as they could hear ongoing gunfire reverberating through the buildings due to the ongoing firefights.

Mirjam Reijnen, a 42-year-old volunteer firefighter and mother of three in Nahal Oz, expressed that while rockets may provide a sense of safety due to the presence of the iron dome and safe rooms, the fear of terrorists roaming within communities is a distinct and unsettling concern.

During a televised speech, Yoav Gallant, the Israeli defense minister, cautioned that Hamas had committed a significant error and assured that Israel would emerge victorious in this conflict.

Some countries in the West expressed their disapproval of the invasion and reaffirmed their backing of Israel, while others urged caution from both parties involved.

Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the US National Security Council, expressed strong condemnation of the Hamas terrorists’ attacks on Israeli civilians, emphasizing that they were unprovoked.

We express our unwavering support for the government and people of Israel and offer our condolences for the lives lost in these attacks.

Ms. Watson mentioned that Jake Sullivan, who serves as the national security adviser, has had a conversation with Tzachi Hanegbi, the Israeli counterpart.

Saudi Arabia, which has been in talks with the US about normalising relations with Israel, released a statement calling on both sides to exercise restraint.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine: recent developments in a dispute that has spanned several decades.

Early on Saturday, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group, initiated its most significant attack on Israel in years. They launched a massive number of rockets from Gaza and also deployed fighters across the border.

Israel announced that it was in a state of war readiness and initiated its own attacks on Hamas targets in Gaza. Israeli media reported clashes between groups of Palestinian fighters and security forces in the southern part of Israel.

Starting with Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005, the subsequent events outlined in this timeline highlight significant escalations in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian factions within the densely populated coastal enclave. This area is inhabited by approximately 2.3 million individuals.

August 2005:The Israeli military unilaterally pulls out of Gaza, 38 years after seizing it from Egypt during the Middle East conflict. They leave behind settlements and hand over control of the territory to the Palestinian Authority.

Jan. 25, 2006:Hamas, an Islamist organization, emerges as the victor in a Palestinian legislative election, securing the majority of seats. As a consequence of Hamas’ refusal to denounce violence and acknowledge Israel, both Israel and the U.S. decide to halt their assistance to the Palestinians.

June 25, 2006: Hamas militants capture Israeli army conscript Gilad Shalit in a cross-border raid from Gaza, prompting Israeli air strikes and incursions. Shalit is finally freed more than five years later in a prisoner exchange.

June 14, 2007:During a short civil conflict, Hamas gains control of Gaza by removing Fatah forces who are loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, currently situated in the West Bank.

Dec. 27, 2008:Israel initiates a military campaign lasting 22 days in Gaza in response to rocket attacks by Palestinians targeting the southern Israeli town of Sderot. Approximately 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis lose their lives before a ceasefire is reached.

Nov. 14, 2012:Israel assassinates Ahmad Jabari, the military leader of Hamas. Subsequently, there are eight days of reciprocal rocket attacks from Palestinian militants and airstrikes from Israel.

July-August 2014:Hamas’s abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers sparked a seven-week conflict resulting in over 2,100 reported Palestinian fatalities in Gaza. Additionally, 73 Israeli deaths were reported, with 67 of them being military personnel.

March 2018:Protests initiated by Palestinians commence at the fenced border separating Gaza and Israel. Israeli troops resort to gunfire in order to prevent protestors from advancing. Over 170 Palestinians are reportedly deceased as a result of these protests that have persisted for several months, leading to clashes between Hamas and Israeli forces.

May 2021:During the holy month of Ramadan, there has been ongoing tension leading to clashes between Israeli security forces and hundreds of Palestinians at the Al Aqsa compound in Jerusalem, which holds great significance in Islam as the third holiest site.

Hamas orders Israel to remove security forces from the compound, prompting a series of rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel. In response, Israel retaliates with airstrikes on Gaza. The conflict persists for a duration of 11 days, resulting in the deaths of at least 250 individuals in Gaza and 13 in Israel.

Aug 2022:In a span of three days, a total of 44 individuals, including 15 children, lose their lives due to a series of violent incidents triggered by Israeli airstrikes targeting a high-ranking commander of Islamic Jihad.

Israel claims that the strikes were a proactive measure taken to prevent an upcoming assault from the Iranian-supported militant group. The objective was to target their leaders and weapon storage facilities. In retaliation, Islamic Jihad launches over 1,000 rockets towards Israel. Fortunately, Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system effectively intercepts these rockets, averting significant harm or casualties.

Jan 2023: After Israeli forces carry out a raid on a refugee camp, resulting in the deaths of seven Palestinian gunmen and two civilians, Islamic Jihad in Gaza retaliates by launching two rockets towards Israel. Although the rockets trigger alarms in Israeli communities near the border, no one is injured. In response, Israel conducts air strikes on Gaza.

Oct 2023: Hamas has initiated the largest assault on Israel in recent years, originating from the Gaza Strip. This unexpected offensive involves a combination of armed individuals crossing the border and a significant onslaught of rockets. Islamic Jihad has also announced its participation in the attack.

The military of Israel declared that it was prepared for war, stating that it had conducted attacks aimed at Hamas in Gaza and had summoned reserve troops.

The kingdom expressed concerns about the potential escalation of the situation due to the ongoing occupation and the denial of legitimate rights to the Palestinian people.

The attack comes at a time of historic division within Israel over Mr Netanyahu’s proposal to overhaul the judiciary.

The plan has sparked mass protests in Israel, with hundreds of thousands of demonstrators taking to the streets. Additionally, it has led to numerous military reservists avoiding volunteer duty, causing turmoil. This situation has raised concerns about the military’s preparedness for battle and its ability to deter its enemies.

It is occurring during a period of escalating tensions between Israel and the Palestinians. The Palestinians have been growing increasingly hopeless as the peace process has been stagnant for years and there is no solution in sight for Israel’s occupation.

In the last year, the Israeli government, which leans towards the far-right, has significantly increased the building of settlements in the West Bank, resulting in the displacement of hundreds of Palestinians due to violent actions by Israeli settlers. Additionally, there have been heightened tensions surrounding a significant religious site in Jerusalem.

Saturday’s extensive attack posed a risk to Mr. Netanyahu’s image as a security specialist committed to safeguarding Israel.

It also raised questions about the cohesion of a security apparatus crucial to the stability of a country locked in low-intensity conflicts on multiple fronts and facing threats from Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group.

On Friday, Hezbollah extended their congratulations to Hamas, commending the attack as a reaction to ‘Israeli offenses’ and affirming that the militants had received support from a higher power.

The group stated that its leadership in Lebanon was communicating with Hamas regarding the mission.

Since Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007, Israel has enforced a blockade on the territory. The two adversaries have engaged in four conflicts since that time.

The imposed restriction on the movement of individuals and commodities in and out of Gaza has caused severe damage to the region’s economy.

Israel argues that the blockade is necessary to prevent the accumulation of weapons by militant factions, while the Palestinians claim that the closure is a form of collective punishment.

Nearly 200 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military raids in the West Bank, which has seen heavy fighting. Israel says the raids are aimed at militants, but stone-throwing protesters and people uninvolved in the violence have also been killed.

Over 30 individuals have lost their lives due to Palestinian assaults on Israeli objectives.

Hamas-affiliated protesters in Gaza have engaged in violent demonstrations along the Israeli border, causing tensions to escalate.

The protests came to a stop in late September following the intervention of international mediators.

“I cannot reword”

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly expressed his condemnation of the attack, as did Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer, who stated that there is no valid reason for this act of terror.

President Joe Biden characterized the attack as ‘horrific’ and confirmed that he had communicated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to emphasize that the United States is prepared to provide any necessary assistance.

Biden cautioned against any other party that is hostile to Israel attempting to benefit from the situation, as the attacks posed a risk of escalating into a larger conflict. This warning came after Hamas, a Palestinian militant group backed by Iran, initiated air, sea, and land strikes on Israel.

Biden emphasized that Israel, a recipient of significant military aid from the United States, has the “right to protect itself and its citizens.”

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reaffirmed Washington’s ‘unwavering’ commitment, saying ‘over the coming days the Department of Defense will work to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and protect civilians.’

According to a report from the US State Department in 2021, Israel has been provided with substantial military assistance from the United States, totaling over $125 billion since its establishment.

According to the report, this has contributed to the development of one of the most proficient and powerful armed forces globally.

Brazil has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council in response to the ongoing conflict. The session is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

“I cannot reword”

He added that the secretary-general is expressing great concern for the civilian population and is calling for utmost restraint.

At all times, international humanitarian law mandates the respect and protection of civilians.
