After Babylon, the previous provider, collapsed, an American healthcare company has assumed control of the NHS’s digital GP services.

Florida-based eMed snapped up Babylon UK after it went into administration in August.

“I cannot reword.”

eMed will acquire GP At Hand through the sale, which currently has a contract with the NHS. This contract enables patients to schedule appointments and communicate with doctors through online platforms or video calls.

Babylon established the service in 2017, and it currently boasts over 100,000 users.

However, the company, which went public on the US stock market in 2021 with a valuation exceeding £3 billion, depleted its funds while attempting to quickly grow its presence in the US market.

In May, the company made a public statement about its plans to become privately owned through a partnership with MindMaze, a Swiss digital neurotherapy firm. However, this plan fell apart rapidly and Babylon subsequently filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States.

The five physical clinics in London belonging to the group will continue to operate.
