Sheffield Wednesday fan who mocked Bradley Lowery is spared jail

A Sheffield Wednesday fan who mocked the loss of life of younger mascot Bradley Lowery throughout a match towards Sunderland has been spared jail.

Dale Houghton has been given a 12-week jail sentence suspended for 18 months at Sheffield Magistrates Court.

The soccer yob who mocked Bradley Lowery – who died from neuroblastoma in 2017 – by holding up a picture of him whereas laughing in a bid to goad Sunderland followers has been banned from native sports activities groups and pubs. 

He was sacked from his job as a window fitter because of his behaviour and has been kicked off his native soccer group, Joker Wickersley Youth CC, and the cricket group, Wickersley Old Village Cricket Club.

Bradley grew to become liked by the nation and was greatest buddies with footballer Jermain Defoe, who paid tribute to his ‘inspirational’ younger pal after the incident, including: ‘We love and miss you Brad. Love, your greatest pal endlessly.’ 

The six-year-old even grew to become Sunderland’s mascot and managed to boost £1million by his charity in his brief life.
