Ex-Labour chief Lord Kinnock’s spouse dies ‘peacefully in her sleep’

Baroness Glenys Kinnock of Holyhead, a former minister, MEP and spouse of ex-Labour chief Lord Kinnock, has died.

Tributes have been paid to the 79-year-old, who served as MEP for Wales from 1994 to 2009, who handed away six years after being identified with Alzheimer’s.

In an announcement, her household mentioned the ‘proud democratic socialist’, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday at her London residence along with her husband at her aspect.

Labour chief Sir Keir Starmer mentioned she was a ‘passionate lifelong campaigner for social justice’ who had ‘probably the most great partnership’ along with her husband.

Alastair Campbell mentioned he was ‘devastated’ by the information and paid tribute to her as a ‘loving good friend and counsel’ who was a ‘formidable political drive in her personal proper’.

In an announcement her household mentioned: ‘It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the demise of Glenys Kinnock,’ they mentioned.

‘Glenys died peacefully in her sleep within the early hours of Sunday morning, at residence in London.

‘She was the beloved spouse and life associate of Neil, the cherished mom of Steve and Rachel and an adored grandmother.

‘Neil was along with her in her last moments. They had been married for 56 years.

‘A proud democratic socialist, she campaigned, in Britain and internationally, for justice and towards poverty all her life.’

Baroness Kinnock’s household mentioned they have been ‘devastated’ by her demise. 

Continuing their tributes to Lady Kinnock, her household mentioned: ‘Passionate to the top about schooling, she was a valued and revered college trainer earlier than she started her personal political profession, as a Member of the European Parliament, then being made a peer within the House of Lords from the place she served as minister for 3 of the good passions of her life, Europe, Africa and the UN.

‘She was an awesome good friend to many individuals and causes and was really liked.

‘Glenys endured Alzheimer’s after being identified in 2017 and, so long as she might, sustained her merriment and limitless capability for love, by no means complaining and with the innate braveness with which she had confronted each problem all through her life.

‘The household is in fact devastated and and would ask that their privateness be revered. Funeral particulars can be communicated sooner or later.’
