An Afghan refugee launched from immigration detention after a controversial High Court ruling has been charged with two counts of indecent assault.

Aliyawar Yawari, 65, appeared within the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday lower than a month after he walked free from Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre in Western Australia.

Police arrested Yawari on the Pavlos Motel in Pooraka in Adelaide’s north on Saturday night time after allegations a girl had been assaulted by a visitor.

He didn’t apply for bail and has been remanded in custody till January. 

Yawari was beforehand accused of attacking three ladies and was convicted of assault in 2016.

The High Court’s determination on November 8 allowed 148 harmful non-citizens to be launched from detention.
