He stated: “I wasn’t in a good space. I couldn’t process what had just happened.” The sufferer later stated he felt a way of “shock and shame, so I bottled it up and said nothing”.

The jury heard a press release was given by the witness in July 2019 and when requested by counsel why he had not come ahead earlier than this, stated he felt “ashamed” of the alleged incident.

He stated: “I was ashamed, and after a year and a half of therapy, I had convinced myself that there was nothing to be ashamed about and not to bottle it up any longer.”

The witness accepted he had used LSD and ecstasy on the time together with alcohol and marijuana. Michael O’Higgins, defending, recommended “all sexual activity between my client and you was consensual,” which the witness disagreed with.

The trainer was in his 30s on the time of the alleged offences, whereas the complainants have been then aged between 17 and 24.

He has pleaded not responsible to 1 rely of tried rape and eight counts of sexual assault on dates between March 1991 and November 1997 at areas in Co Dublin.
