Ex-Tory council chief backs Labour in by-election to switch Peter Bone
A former Tory council chief has backed Labour’s candidate within the by-election to switch disgraced MP Peter Bone.
Martin Griffiths, who has served as a councillor for 17 years, and is a former chief of Wellingborough Borough Council, mentioned the world wants an “honest MP. Someone with integrity who puts residents first.” In a video message saying he’d again Labour candidate Gen Kitchen, he mentioned: “Our former Conservative MP has exploited his position, refused to stand down when called out and is costing taxpayers in excess of £100,000.”
Wellingborough Mr Bone may very well be booted out after Parliament’s behaviour watchdog upheld complaints of bullying and sexual harassment made towards him by a former member of workers. A recall petition opened within the Northamptonshire constituency this week and can shut on Tuesday (19 DEC). If 10 % of voters within the seat signal the petition it is going to lead to a by-election.
And if Mr Bone does select to defend his seat within the by-election, he’ll achieve this as an unbiased. He was suspended from the Commons Conservative Party in response to the watchdog’s report.
Of Ms Kitchen, Mr Griffiths mentioned: “She’s hard working, has great ideas and really listens to what people need.” He added: “We need a fresh start and Gen Kitchen is the only person that can deliver that.”
