A number one climate knowledgeable has revealed what Brits can count on on Christmas Day – with snow on the playing cards for some.

Snow is anticipated this weekend within the north of Scotland, the place a Met Office climate warning is in place.

Jim Dale, Senior Meteorological Consultant at British Weather Services, defined this snow will seemingly be “transitory”. He informed the Daily Star: “We are between the two air masses. The big, cold, freezing, snowy air mass over Scandinavia and halfway towards Scotland – that’s in one place – and the Azores High that is out to the south-west.

The UK is presently caught ‘between two air lots’, Mr Dale mentioned (inventory)

“Between all that, what we’ve got is the jet stream. We’re in the transition zone between the two, hence the reason for the winds, the rain and the bits of snow. So whatever happens over this weekend in terms of snow, it’ll be Scotland only and primarily the high ground.”

Mr Dale expects this sample to stay in place for Christmas Day on Monday. He mentioned: “By the time we come to Christmas Day, for the most part – for 95% of the population – it will be mild. Even very mild in the south.

“The solely chilly climate is prone to be over Scotland and significantly northern Scotland, significantly later within the day.” Mr Dale said areas north of the Great Glen could provide the “excellent” Christmas Day climate.

He added: “So in effect it will be a White Christmas because there will be one flake of snow falling somewhere in northern Scotland – but to be honest that’s a bit silly, isn’t it. That’s where it will be unless you want to jet off to Scandinavia – in which case you can literally fill your boots!”

The Met Office has issued the same verdict. The nationwide climate company mentioned in a press release: “A White Christmas – which is defined by the Met Office as a single snowflake falling on Christmas Day – is likely, with wintry showers likely over high ground in the far north of Scotland.”
