Dozens of flights have been cancelled at a significant airport throwing Christmas journey plans into chaos.

At least 27 flights have already been cancelled at Sydney Airport on Christmas Day, together with a world flight from Seoul and a visit to Ho Chi Minh City.

The cancelled flights arriving and departing Sydney embody ten from Virgin Australia, six Qantas flights, and three from Jetstar.

Some smaller regional airways have additionally been impacted.

The cancellations come after the airport was battered by wild storms that triggered main disruptions to flights on Sunday.

Sydney Airport recorded 91.2mm of rain within the 24 hours to 9am on Monday, making it the wettest December day for the world in 53 years.

About 20 Qantas flights have been delayed or diverted to Melbourne or Canberra on Christmas Eve.

A Sydney Airport spokesman blamed the cancellations on the time on ‘native flooding’. 

‘Flights are presently arriving and departing, nevertheless some earlier flights have been affected, with quite a lot of arriving providers delayed,’ he mentioned.
