Bloke ‘swallowed’ by humpback whale after which spat again out feared he’d be eaten

“This is it, I’m finally… I’m going to die,” had been the phrases dashing via a fisherman’s head as he was about to be swallowed by a humpback whale.

Diver Michael Packàrd was nearly 14 metres under the ocean’s floor off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, US, when he immediately “felt this huge bump and everything went dark”.

Recalling the horrifying second he was trapped within the mouth of the whale, Michael, 56, stated on the time: “I jumped over and I acquired right down to about 45 ft of water and unexpectedly I felt this big bump and all the pieces went darkish.

‘And then I realised, oh my God, I’m in a whale’s mouth’

“And then I realised, oh my God, I’m in a whale’s mouth… I’m in a whale’s mouth and he’s trying to swallow me.”

The lobster fisherman then advised The Washington Post of how he believed he’d be eaten: “And I thought to myself, okay this is it. This is, I’m finally… I’m going to die.”

But, in a miraculous change of occasions, the whale emerged from the water and spat him out into the ocean. He stated: “He [the whale] went up to the surface and just erupted, and started shaking his head and I just got thrown in the air and landed in the water and I was free.”

He advised fishing accomplice Josiah Mayo: “I was inside it. I was inside its mouth. It tried to eat me.”

Mayo advised The Post of the 2015 incident: “This was a humpback whale. It was a relief because it wasn’t a shark, which meant Michael would be all done at that point.

“It took [Michael] from behind and it appeared prefer it totally enveloped him instantly. That’s form of outstanding and so we are able to solely think about the whale was most likely feeding.

“I like to think of it as a teenager or a puppy… It probably doesn’t know what it’s doing too well.”

Thankfully Michael, a lobster fisherman of 40 years, escaped with just severe bruising to his legs.

Peter Corkeron, a senior scientist at the New England Aquarium, said when humpback whales feed they often do ‘gulp feeding’ – meaning they open their mouths so wide that it’s possible that is how Michael was scooped up.

The Daily Star previously reported the moment a couple from the UK were attacked by six killer whales.

Cambridge dwellers Janet Morris and Stephen Bidwell, both 58, were taking a sailing course near Morocco when the incident occurred.

They were taking a nap on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, just seven miles from Tangier, when they heard crew members start to shout “Orcas! Orcas!!”, along with banging on the hull.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw them, it’s extremely rare. We were sitting ducks,” stated enterprise marketing consultant Janet. “We had been amazingly calm however beneath we had been considering, ‘Oh my god’.” Read the total story right here.
