Storm Gerrit named as Met Office warns ’20cm of snow and 70mph winds’ coming
A storm set to batter the UK from tomorrow (Wednesday, December 27) has been named by the Met Office, with a lot of climate warnings issued.
Storm Gerrit will carry heavy rain and winds of as much as 70mph – and snow can be on the playing cards in northern areas.
Most of Scotland is impacted by a snow warning in place till 9pm tomorrow. The Met Office warns some rural communities might change into lower off and energy may very well be affected.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders stated: “Storm Gerrit will run towards western UK on Wednesday and bring with it potential impacts for much of the UK. Winds across southern coastal areas of England will be strong, possibly peaking around 70mph on exposed coastlines, but more widely around 50-60 mph within the warning area.
“Rain is an extra hazard from Storm Gerrit, with energetic climate fronts resulting in a moist day for a lot of. Snow can be prone to trigger issues for some northern areas: solely briefly for a number of upland routes throughout the Pennines and southern Scotland in a single day and early on Wednesday, however extra extensively to the north of the Central Lowlands later within the day.
