Israel Presses Egypt to Better Secure Borderland Against Hamas Smugglers

Israel and Egypt are negotiating the way forward for a hall between Egypt and Gaza that Israel says has been utilized by Hamas to smuggle weapons and other people by means of underground tunnels and is essential to destroying the militant group.

Israel has requested that sensors be put in alongside the Philadelphi Corridor—the sliver of land managed by Egypt that borders Gaza—in response to senior Egyptian officers, to alert Israel in case Hamas makes an attempt to rebuild a tunnel and smuggling community after the struggle. Israel, which used to manage the hall, additionally requested direct notifications if the sensors are triggered and the appropriate to ship surveillance drones into the world in case of such a set off, the officers stated.
