Storm Jocelyn dwell: Rush hour chaos as Dartford Crossing closed amid 97mph winds

Commuters face rush hour chaos this morning after the Dartford Crossing was closed owing to sturdy winds.

The UK has been hit with gusts of as much as 97mph in Capel Curig, Wales, and speeds of 80mph forecast elsewhere, the Met Office mentioned.

The Dartford Crossing was shut at 1.45am on Wednesday with National Highways saying it would stay closed “in to and beyond peak times”, solely reopening when “safe to do so”.

Rail operators suspended trains on Tuesday with TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast not anticipated to renew providers till a minimum of noon. 

Amber and yellow climate warnings are in place for big elements of the UK, with yellow warnings for rain masking elements of western and southern Scotland, and north west England. There are 58 flood warnings in place throughout the UK.
