Locals have been warned after the Japanese macaque escaped from its enclosure at round 7am this morning. 

Neighbours in Kincraig, close to Aviemore, have been shocked as they noticed the cheeky animal casually strolling across the village at round 11am.

A staff from the zoo are out searching for the animal and members of the general public have been warned to not strategy it.

One resident, Carl Nagle, 49, mentioned he awoke this morning to his daughter screaming: ‘Dad! There’s a monkey on the road!’

He instructed Press and Journal: ‘It was 11am, I used to be simply having a calming Sunday morning.

‘We went outdoors the home and there it was within the backyard. It was wonderful.

‘A juvenile Japanese snow monkey that we have seen many instances on the wildlife park, sitting subsequent to my fence consuming nuts which have fallen from my chicken feeders.’

Mr Nagle continued: ‘It wandered backwards and forwards and ran across the backyard somewhat earlier than returning to have an excellent go at one other feeder.

‘Then he made his approach onto the roof of an out of doors sauna earlier than disappearing into the timber, simply earlier than the keepers from the park appeared to try to catch him.’

Videos shared on social media present the animal hanging onto backyard fences and shaking nuts from a chicken feeder.
