Harry Maguire trolled by ‘you’re pants’ sign from Newport fan with toy monkey

A quirky-looking Newport County fan took an odd, but admittedly hilarious, swipe at Harry Maguire during Manchester United’s visit to Rodney Parade.

The Red Devils were in town looking to avoid an FA Cup giant-killing against their Welsh opponents, who are just nine points above the drop-zone in League Two. Maguire didn’t start the match, but that didn’t stop Newport fans ripping into him before kick-off.

One supporter, who had bright orange hair gelled into a mohawk and a toy monkey hanging from his neck (as you do), was seen holding a sign which read: “Harry Maguire. You’re pants! Can I have them please?”

Photos of the peculiar bloke quickly did the rounds on social media, with one fan hailing “the magic of the FA Cup”. Another said: “This is what League Two clubs playing Prem teams should be all about haha.”

Others saw similarities between the supporter and a certain Scottish darts players. “Didn’t realise Peter Wright was a Newport fan,” one joked, while another said: “Snakebite taking his loss the other day well I see.”

Who would you prefer in central defence: Harry Maguire, or this ginger haired monkey-wielding oddball? Let us know in the comments section below.

United made the perfect start to the game, with Bruno Fernandes slotting the ball home from the edge of the box after latching onto a cut-back from Antony after just eight minutes, though Newport fans were left seething as it looked as if Antony was offside in the build-up.

Kobbie Mainoo then made it 2-0 on 13 minutes, firing the ball past Exiles keeper Nick Townsend with a carefully-placed sweeping shot, but Newport later pulled one back via Bryn Morris, whose deflected long-range effort looped in over United keeper Altay Bayindir.
