Petition requires February 29 to change into June 31 for ‘an additional day of summer season’

A petition has been launched to vary February 29 to June 31 – as a result of all of us want one further day of summer season.

It was began by Christopher Snowden, the Head of Lifestyle Economics on the Institute of Economics Affairs, on social media web site Twitter/X. And Snowden is asking for everybody to signal it sooner relatively than later as a result of… properly… we’ll be previous February 29 in a month’s time.

He wrote on the change.org petition: “Every 4 years all of us get an additional day of life because of the system of leap years. But why have an additional day in February (chilly, darkish) when when may have an additional day in June (pretty summer season)?

“I am calling on the British government to move February 29th to June 31st with immediate effect. As a friend said to me when I explained this idea, it’s literally a no-brainer.

“2024 is a leap year so we need to act quickly to instigate this progressive reform. Ideally the whole world – or, more realistically, the northern hemisphere – would switch at the same time, but the UK has the opportunity to take the lead. The United Nations will then have four years to get its ducks in a row.”

The petition has almost hit a whopping 100 supporters, which is 0.0000001485884101040119% of the UK’s inhabitants – so not far off a complete majority.

The signees of the petition praised Snowden’s thought with one going into nice element in regards to the “economic benefits” of the thought.

They wrote: “I would also stress the economic benefits of Dr Snowdon’s reform proposal. GDP growth is often lower during periods of cold and/or wet weather, because this slows down activities like construction – this is the main reason why the Office for National Statistics, and its counterparts elsewhere, seasonally adjust GDP figures.

“An extra day of winter would make us poorer, an extra day of summer would make us richer.”
