Radio 1’s Big Weekend headed to city dubbed ‘worst place to dwell within the UK’
Music followers are fuming on the location of Radio 1’s Big Weekend – set to be hosted by one of many worst UK cities.
Residents described the city of Luton as an unsafe place to be the place individuals are “scared to come”, although it was deemed an appropriate spot for the Big Weekend pageant. Music followers had been left howling on the selection.
With round 100 artists set to be introduced for the pageant, followers took to Twitter/X and slammed the city, with some suggesting Luton as a number was “bizarre”.

Luton was confirmed because the host of the Big Weekend’s 2024 lineup, which is about to run from May 24 to May 26, although the hundreds of followers hoping to bag a ticket had been lower than impressed.

One wrote: “Big Weekend in LUTON this must be a joke,” whereas one other joked: “It’s a big weekend in Luton when there isn’t a murder,” the Daily Mail reported.
Others thought of the pageant location as one of many “funniest things that happens this year” whereas one other questioned “for what reason is big weekend in Luton”. The pageant is about to be held at Stockwood Park.
It was not all doom and gloom for the pageant, who final 12 months hosted the likes of Wet Leg, The 1975, and a now notorious meltdown from duo Royal Blood, who had been heard calling the gang “pathetic” earlier than storming off stage type their set.

One Luton lover wrote: “Spent my teenage and early adult years wishing for a radio 1 big weekend in Luton, telling everyone how stockwood park is the perfect place”.
Residents didn’t converse extremely of Luton elsewhere although, with the Daily Star beforehand reporting the world was a little bit of a wasteland with its retailers shutting down completely. One resident, Metrin Bas, mentioned: “If you look in the evening, everyone shuts down. People are scared and I don’t feel safe.”
Another resident mentioned it was: “Like comparing Slough to the ‘Playboy tax haven of Monaco’.”
