Bloke beat concert-goer as a result of ‘glare from bald head spoiled view’

A person battered a fellow concert-goer unconscious after claiming the glare from his bald head was ruining his view of the gig.

Andrew Ridley, 57, laid into Mark Stevens after an argument between the pair broke out at a Monster Truck gig at Birmingham’s O2 Academy. The gig, on April 19, 2019, noticed the duo conflict in entrance of the Canadian rock outfit, leaving Stevens unconscious.

Stevens was left with a bleed on the mind after Ridley had taken concern with the “lighting” of the world shining off of his fellow attendee’s head.

Ridley, who’s balding himself, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court the place he pleaded responsible to inflicting grievous bodily hurt, receiving a 15-month jail sentence, suspended for 2 years.

Recalling the incident in courtroom, Mr Stevens says he had been offended by “insulting comments” made by Ridley, who was complaining over “something rather trivial”.

Philip Beardwell, prosecuting, mentioned: “It seems they were standing watching and there was a disagreement about who could see what. It was over lights shining off heads, something rather trivial, you may think.” A trial in August 2022 needed to be deserted as Ridley, who had denied wounding with intent, admitted to the choice cost.

Hearing prosecutor Matilda Robinson-Murphy mentioned: “At around 8.30pm an altercation started between Mr Stevens and the defendant. Witnesses saw Mr Stevens push Ridley to the chest but the push was not hard enough to make him fall over.

“What occurred subsequent was that Ridley pushed Mark Stevens to the ground, knocking him unconscious. Ridley then straddled Mr Stevens and continued to punch him onerous to the face and physique.”

As a results of the brutal beating, Mr Stevens was left with a mind bleed and now suffers from hypertension and short-term reminiscence loss. Sentencing, Recorder William Webb mentioned: “You stood near Mr Stevens and a verbal altercation arose between the two of you. What was said is not important but matters got more and more heated.”

Recorder Webb added the sufferer had suffered “very nasty injuries” within the “one-off event”. Rupert Taylor, defending, added: “He has expressed remorse and contrition. He was not in drink.

“He was not the instigator of the confrontation however his response was wholly extreme. These had been merely two center aged males at a music live performance.” Ridley was ordered to 150 hours unpaid work and to pay £150 compensation.
