Man ‘armed with a crossbow and threatening residents’ shot lifeless by police

A person who was armed with a crossbow and threatening individuals has been shot by police in south-east London, the Metropolitan Police mentioned.

Officers had been referred to as to studies of a person trying to pressure entry to a residential property in Bywater Place, Southwark, at 4.55am this morning (Tuesday, January 30).

The man is believed to have been aged in his 30s. It was reported that he was armed with weapons, together with a crossbow, and was threatening to hurt residents contained in the deal with.

The man threatened native officers who responded to the scene first, therefore armed officers had been referred to as in. The man had managed to enter the property when the police firearm was discharged, killing him. He died on the scene regardless of the perfect efforts of officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

Enquiries at the moment are ongoing to tell his subsequent of kin. Two occupants of the property obtained minor accidents throughout the incident.

The Metropolitan Police mentioned in a press release: “Local officers attended and attempted to speak to the man but, after being threatened, armed officers were called and quickly attended the scene.

“The man had got inside the property, and a police firearm was discharged.

“Officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service immediately provided first aid but sadly the man died at the scene.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, liable for policing Southwark, mentioned: “My ideas are with all these affected by this incident.

“I understand the local community will be concerned at the events that have taken place this morning. We will fully support the IOPC investigation into the full circumstances of what happened.

“Armed officers are extremely educated and patrol the streets of London each day, coping with difficult, fast paced and infrequently harmful conditions to attempt to defend the general public and their unarmed colleagues.

“They discharge their weapons very rarely and all officers understand and expect that when they do, their actions will be closely scrutinised.”

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been knowledgeable, and a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
