She was handled at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride for an damage to her face and later reported the assault to the police.

The proprietor of the canine simply stored strolling. Keep your eyes peeled for a girl with a bully, ­bulldog, Staffy-type canine.’

In a warning on social media, ­Bothwell Post Office mentioned: ‘Beware. A ­bulldog/bully type dog got off its owner’s leash and attacked a pet. Whilst attempting to ­separate the canines, the proprietor of the pet was bitten within the face. Please watch out and alert all canine homeowners within the space.’

Police Scotland mentioned: ‘Around 10.40am on Friday, February 9, we were made aware of a woman being attacked by a dog in the Silver­trees area of Bothwell.

‘The woman attended at hospital for treatment. Inquiries are ongoing.’
