Owners of a £1million nation mansion have been left devastated after their dwelling of 35 years went up in flames.

The fireplace ripped via the roof of the big home in Curdridge, close to Southampton, on Sunday night.

Neighbour Phil Sommereux, a retired dentist, 64, who lives reverse, mentioned: ‘We had been watching a movie when my spouse stood up and mentioned she might see flames and we realised it was a home on fireplace.

‘I went over there to see if I might assist. We did not know if anybody was trapped. I referred to as the fireplace brigade on my method over.

‘Luckily all people was out and the fireplace brigade was there. It was fairly dramatic. It’s actually very upsetting for the house owners who’ve been there for about 35 years.

‘The fireplace had ripped via the roof. It was utterly surprising. We clearly really feel very sorry for the house owners who are actually presumably homeless for a while.

‘It was fairly spectacular. I anticipate there can be loads of help for them..’

A spokesperson from Hampshire Fire Service mentioned: ‘More than 60 firefighters labored into the evening to cease a big fireplace which destroyed a property in Curdridge.

‘Firefighters arrived at round half seven final evening to search out the roof concerned in a major fireplace.

‘Fortunately there have been no casualties, with all occupants having safely evacuated.
