Man Utd ace who was youngest-ever £1m participant ‘raped girl with pal’, courtroom hears
Former Manchester United wonderkid John Cofie allegedly raped a girl together with his pal after an evening out, a courtroom has heard.
Cofie, 30, and pal Nathan Stuart are alleged to have raped the girl after she was too drunk to consent. Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court was advised the trio met throughout an evening out in Altrincham in April 2019. Both Cofie and Stuart deny the costs they face.
The girl had been together with her pal when she met the pair, however was left alone when her pal went residence. Jurors have been advised the alleged sufferer was seen “hanging off” Cofie’s arm earlier than the trio went again to Stuart’s home – the place she was allegedly raped.

The courtroom heard that the girl was left “distressed” and she or he was taken to hospital after she started “shaking and hyperventilating”. She was told at the hospital her alcohol intake couldn’t explain her memory loss, nausea, vomiting and headache.
Upon telling Stuart she was feeling unwell, she was allegedly met with the response: “Well, you don’t suppose we spiked you?”
Stuart claimed the pair had sex, before adding Cofie had been present too. The woman accused Stuart of telling her to “neglect it and transfer on” when she she wished to hold out checks with the police.

Cofie and Stuart have each maintained their innocence, claiming that the person consented. Stuart, of Northwich, Cheshire, denies two counts of rape whereas Cofie, of Sale, Greater Manchester, denies three counts of rape.
