WW2 bomb detonated by Navy after hundreds evacuated from ‘todger-shaped zone’
A World War Two bomb that would have triggered enormous devastation to town of Plymouth has been detonated.
The German bomb, which pressured hundreds out of their properties after being discovered within the port metropolis, was efficiently detonated because of the efforts of armed pressured bomb disposal specialists.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed the detonation of the air-dropped bomb – designated by SC-500 – after it was found in a backyard in St Michael Avenue within the Keyham space of Plymouth.

The 500kg explosive was found in a again backyard on Tuesday, as reported by Plymouth Herald. The discovery promoted “one of the largest UK peacetime evacuation operations” based on the MoD.

It was detonated at 9.51 pm on Friday, February 23.
Lt Colonel Rob Swan, who was on the scene, advised the Press Association the bomb could be taken to a depth of not less than 14 metres earlier than a diver would place a donor cost on the bomb to ignite the explosive.
Around 30 of the armed forces’ most skilled bomb disposal specialists had labored across the clock since Tuesday to evaluate the situation of the system because it was found.

Around 10,320 individuals and 1,219 properties have been affected by the 300-metre cordon which was put in place across the web site in a willy-shaped exclusion zone.
The armed forces have been praised for his or her bravery following the detonation of the bomb because it posed an enormous danger to public security.
