One of the devoted patrons who visited the wreckage was the Daily Star’s very own Harry Thompson, who went to investigate what was left of the pub in the wake of its tragic demise. There, Thompson found “witty however biting” placards immortalising the beloved venue.

“Happy hour is over,” read one. “Mama weer [sic] all crooked now,” another read.
